Yes, Jumanji like the 1995 movie that enchanted us (at least a few). “Jumanji: welcome to the jungle” premiered in the last month of 2017 and was… well let me tell you that against all the critics the movie was actually not bad. With action, comedy and adventure it’s starring Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas.
Synopsis (from IMDb): Four teenagers are sucked into a magical video game, and the only way they can escape is to work together to finish the game.
That synopsis may tell you pretty much everything about the movie, and may make you remember that old Robin Williams. I complained a lot about the fact that the storyline is obvious the same but instead of a game board they transform it into a video game (because now we’re in the 21st centry of course!).
When I watched the movie, I have to admit, I hated it. I couldn’t stand they dare to make a remake of a movie that most of the people watched in their childhood, I thought really deep inside (and on twitter) that they were destroying this story for the new generations. Then I watched Nick Jonas in the trailer and the “hate” feeling became something bittersweet, because I’m a total Nick Jonas fan and I just can’t hate one of his movie.
So, with all those thoughts close to the premiere date I changed my attitude and said to myself: “Let’s watch how bad this one is”…and sitting there on that cinema chair I complained a lot before the movie, then the movie start and I was complaining but then…I laugh and laugh and laugh and I stopped complaining and enjoy it.
Of course would never be like the original 1995 film, of course won’t be a competitor in the Oscar nominees list but I really felt great watching and ignoring some of the bad comments about this one, it was entertaining and fun to watch. I still not into the video game thing but things change and we have to accept them.
The movie shows us a story with opposite characters that have incredible chemistry (even the avatar characters), they all mix up together to make us enjoy a movie where the teens characters join forces full of friendship and the movie is a trip for them to find themselves and who they really wanna be.
With great characters, really funny moments, and a little scene that can make you cry (if you still being a Robin Williams fan). But somehow the movie gets a little slow and kinda stuck that you’re gonna wish for the end really bad. Ignoring that little detail, the action scenes are on point and it was a funny funny movie to enjoy.
This movie deserves… ⭐⭐⭐⭐(out of five). It lost point because it wasn’t that good, it just was surprisingly not bad as I thought. It wins point because it’s something fun to watch.
Do I recommend it? Hell, yeah. But remember that it’s just for fun. And if you like fun, it’s really a must-watch.
